Efficient planar heterojunction based on α-sexithiophene/fullerene through the use of MoO3/CuI anode buffer layer

In this work, planar heterojunction organic photovoltaic cells (PHJ-OPVs) based on alpha-sexithiophene (α-6T) and fullerene active materials were investigated. We have studied the effect of hole transporting layer (HTL) performances PHJ-OPVs. The HTLs are molybdenum trioxide (MoO3), cuprous iodide CuI MoO3 coupled with (MoO3/CuI). PHJ-OPVs fabricated using thermal evaporation/sublimation technique. experimental study shows that double HTL MoO3/CuI, 1.5 nm thickness, improves significantly efficiency compared those single HTLs. This enhancement is due to fact contributes optimization holes collection causes significant influence nucleation growth α-6T. has led spectacular modification structural properties When α-6T deposited onto ITO/MoO3, layers amorphous, while they crystallized into monoclinic crystalline structure a laying down molecular orientation when ITO/MoO3/CuI. use deposition parameters an important improvement in light absorption, roughness mobility. These findings participated their life time.
